How to select steel frame materials for multi-span plastic film greenhouses

11-05-2025

In modern agriculture, multi-span plastic greenhouses have become the preferred choice for many growers due to their high efficiency and practicality. And the steel frame, as an important supporting structure of the multi-span plastic greenhouses, the material greenhouse configuration of which is of vital importance.

Firstly, when choosing steel materials, priority should be given to those with high strength and good corrosion resistance. For instance, hot-dip galvanized steel is a good option. The hot-dip galvanizing process can form a dense zinc layer on the surface of the steel, effectively preventing rust and corrosion of the steel in the humid greenhouse environment, thereby extending the service life of the steel framework.

For different parts of the steel frame, the material specifications also need to be differentiated. The columns are the main load-bearing components of the greenhouse, and they should be made of thicker steel to ensure that they can withstand the weight of the greenhouse roof and possible external forces such as wind and snow. Generally, the columns can be made of larger-diameter square tubes, and their thickness should also be appropriately increased, such as 100*50*2.0mm hot-dip galvanized square tubes.

The cross beams serve to connect the columns and support the roof of the greenhouse. They also require high strength. Steel of the same material as the columns but with slightly smaller specifications can be selected to ensure that while bearing the pressure of the roof, greenhousethe overall stability of the greenhouse is not affected. Generally, 50*30*2.0mm or 50*50*2.0mm hot-dip galvanized square tubes can be used.

The water tank and arch beam are also indispensable parts of the steel framework configuration. The thickness of the water tank is generally 2.0mm. If greenhouse is less than 2.0mm, it cannot withstand wind and snow. An additional reinforcing plate should be added inside the water tank. For the arch beam, it is recommended to use 32*1.5mm or 32*2.0mm hot-dip galvanized round pipes.

In addition, connecting pieces and standard components are also indispensable parts. High-quality connecting pieces should have sufficient strength and excellent connection performance, enabling them to firmly connect all the steel frame components together. Usually, fasteners such as bolts and nuts are used for connection, and these fasteners should greenhousealso be made of corrosion-resistant materials to prevent loosening or rusting during long-term use.
